Virgin America SJC-LAX Service to End May 14

Friday, March 14, 2014

Virgin America will end its nonstop service between San Jose Mineta International Airport (SJC) and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) as of May 14, 2014. Guests who have already booked travel to or from San Jose beyond May 14, can be re-booked on alternate flights to or from San Francisco International Airport (SFO) or choose a full refund of their flight should they prefer that option.

The airline hopes that South Bay travelers will continue to choose Virgin America to stay connected and comfortable for their longer-haul flights from SFO. For LA-based guests traveling to the Bay Area, Virgin America continues to offer multiple nonstop daily flights between SFO and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

Gate-to-gate Use of Portable Electronic Devices

Thursday, November 21, 2013

On October 31, 2013, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) released new guidance, which paves the way for airlines to expand traveler use of Portable Electronic Devices (PEDs) during all phases of flight (including take-off, taxi and landing).

Virgin America welcomes changes that increase traveler connectivity and convenience and has completed the necessary testing to authorize the use of PEDs during all phases of flight. Virgin America guests now are allowed to use permitted portable electronics devices (PEDs) "gate-to-gate" on all U.S. flights — with no restrictions during previously restricted phases of flight. A few rules remain, however:

  • Larger items, such as laptops, must be stowed for take-off and landing for safety reasons.
  • Cellular devices must be in airplane mode.

New Security Checkpoint at JFK

Thursday, March 14, 2013

Starting on Thursday, March 14 John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) will activate the new central passenger security checkpoint on the 4th Floor Departures Level, and will simultaneously decommission A and B Con passenger security checkpoints. The central passenger security checkpoint provides for 12 TSA lanes and 6 Ticket Document Checkers but will be severely constrained until final construction is complete at the end of April/early May.

Once the construction is complete, the permanent passenger queuing space will be significantly expanded and will provide the full level and quality of passenger queuing that JFK has planned for T4, including a queue to accommodate 1st and business class passengers. For more information see: www.tfac-jfk.org

Until construction is complete at the new security checkpoint, we recommend that all guests, including First Class and Main Cabin Select travelers arrive to the airport early to allow for sufficient time to get through security.
