Virgin America's FreeFest Express Gets Ready for Takeoff
Do-Gooders Enjoy “Free.I.P.” Treatment with Gogo® In-Flight Internet, a Mile-High Video Gaming Lounge and VeeV Cocktails on Cross Country Flight
San Francisco – August 26, 2009 – Virgin America, the domestic airline that is reinventing air travel, is teaming up with Virgin Mobile USA to fly West Coast do-gooders from Los Angeles to Washington D.C. to attend the festival event of the summer – the Virgin Mobile FreeFest. Virgin America is donating use of an entire plane, dubbed the FreeFest Express, to fly special guests and those who have earned a free VIP trip by donating time to homeless youth organizations.
In keeping with the spirit of the festival and the Virgin brand, fans who donated their time to do volunteer work for StandUp For Kids, a homeless youth outreach organization in Los Angeles and San Diego, were eligible to win a free round trip flight on Virgin America’s FreeFest Express from Los Angeles (LAX) to Washington D.C. (Dulles) on August 29-31, plus a two-night hotel stay and VIP tickets to the hottest concert of the summer. On Saturday August 29th, 40 volunteers and their guests will receive the “Free.I.P.” treatment onboard the special event flight from LAX to IAD.
All guests on board the FreeFest Express will score Gogo® In-flight Internet passes so they can surf the web, email, update their status or Tweet from 35,000 feet en route to the festival. During the flight, Virgin America will also be turning its First Class cabin into a video game lounge where Sony Computer Entertainment America will be providing new PlayStation® Limited Edition Rock Band PSP Entertainment Packs entertainment bundles for the first-ever mile-high gaming lounge.
Guests onboard the FreeFest Express will be treated to special VeeV Açai “Free-tini” cocktails. And in case they have too much fun over the festival weekend, Help Remedies is supplying FreeFest travelers with their eco-friendly packaged simple solutions to headaches, body aches or sleeping troubles – for the flight back home.
Virgin Mobile FreeFest will feature Weezer, Blink-182, Public Enemy, Franz Ferdinand and a dozen more acts on Sunday, August 30th at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Md.
Stand Up For Kids, Los Angeles provides outreach in the Venice Beach and Hollywood areas. On average, Stand Up For Kids volunteers provide about 100 kids per week in the LA area with food and hygiene packs referrals for youth shelters as well as mental health and drug rehabilitation services. More than two million young people will experience homelessness in the U.S. this year, much of it due to domestic violence, abuse or neglect.
Virgin Mobile USA, the wireless company and creator of one of the largest and most critically acclaimed music festivals in the U.S., gave away 35,000 FreeFest tickets – in just minutes – so loyal fans could enjoy Virgin Mobile FreeFest.
