Virgin America Named Official Airline of SF Pride

San Francisco’s Hometown Airline Proudly Partners Again with San Francisco Pride Parade & Celebration

San Francisco – June 23, 2009 – Virgin America, the California-based carrier that is reinventing domestic air travel, today announced a partnership with SF Pride, the nation’s largest LGBT event, for the second year in a row. As the “Official Airline of SF Pride,” Virgin America will once again partner with the San Francisco LGBT Pride Celebration Committee for the world-famous, one-of-a-kind SF Pride Parade and Celebration.

“We couldn’t be more proud to again be a part of this incredible tradition and support SF Pride’s important work to educate and celebrate the LGBT community. The spirit that surrounds the SF Pride celebration has literally defined the San Francisco community for more than 30 years,” said Porter Gale, Vice President of Marketing at Virgin America. “San Francisco’s our hometown so how could we not be the official airline of SF Pride? I look forward to pulling my red feather boa out of the closet and marching along side a bevy of our teammates in the parade.”

Virgin America will partner with SF Pride for a memorable presence at the parade. Complete with a contingent of over 100 Virgin America teammates and a float modeled after its modern sleek airplanes, Virgin America is bringing the message that “Change is in the Air”. The only California-based airline will also welcome on board those traveling from all over the country who will take part in the festivities. Special SF Pride guests will kick off their journey to the event in fabulous style on board Virgin America’s planes, which feature nightclub-like moodlighting, custom-designed leather seats, touch-screen personal entertainment systems and as of this spring: in-flight internet on every flight. This year’s parade-goers can now obsessively update their Facebook status, Tweet, and otherwise stay connected while on board their Virgin America flight at 35,000 feet en route to San Francisco.

“SF Pride celebrates the diversity and depth of the San Francisco community,” said Lindsey Jones, Executive Director of the LGBT Pride Celebration Committee “We are thrilled to welcome back Virgin America as our official domestic airline sponsor. Virgin America’s commitment to make flying good again echoes SF Pride’s commitment to produce an event that makes a difference.”

This year marks the 39th Anniversary of SF Pride, which will be held this weekend.

Launched in August 2007, Virgin America offers low-fare, high-tech flights that appeal to today’s travelers. Pride-goers on any of Virgin America’s 100 daily flights now have the option to surf the Web, check e-mail or log on to their corporate VPN – all from the comfort of their seats at 35,000 feet. Virgin America is the first and only airline to offer consumers in-flight WiFi on every flight – regardless of route, aircraft type, or flight time. Virgin America also offers power outlets near every seat – so travelers can stay connected longer.
