FAQs

What is responsive design?

Our guests visit and use virginamerica.com from a variety of devices (smartphones, iPads, tablets, laptops etc). Essentially, “responsive design” means that the new website allows guests to view and navigate the full website, no matter what device they use. The new front end lets guests have a much smoother mobile booking experience, in particular.

Do I need an “avatar” to use virginamerica.com?  How do I get one?

Avatars are a new personalization feature of the site that make travel easier to manage — and just a little more fun.  They are automatically available on the site — so no extracurricular work required! Our digital seat map prompts you to select an avatar to make a booking and a seat selection. Elevate members can select and attach an avatar to their Elevate profile for themselves — and additional avatars for others for whom they frequently book travel.

What browsers are supported for the new site?

Site visitors using older versions of browsers may encounter subtle differences in the visual appearance. And as always, site visitors using much older browsers — for example Internet Explorer 8 or Mozilla Firefox 18 or older — may have a degraded visual experience and site performance may be affected. For those using older browsers, we recommend installing the newest version by clicking on your preferred browser name below.

The new virginamerica.com works best with the following browsers:

  • Internet Explorer (version 10 or above)
  • Google Chrome (version 29 or above)
  • Mozilla Firefox (version 24 or above)
  • Safari (version 6 or above)

  • Google Chrome 20 and lower
  • Opera 12 and lower
  • Opera Mobile, Opera Mini
  • Android 2.x Web Browser
  • Android 3.x Web Browser

  • iOS 4.x and lower

Is the new website supported for my mobile device?

Yes. Because it is based on responsive web design principles, the new site is “device neutral”: all of our guests enjoy the same enhanced experience, whether they are visiting the site from a laptop, a tablet or a smartphone.  However, there may be some variation in the experience based on the browser on the guest’s device.  The following browsers create the best experience on the new virginamerica.com website:

  • Internet Explorer (version 10 or above)
  • Google Chrome (version 29 or above)
  • Mozilla Firefox (version 24 or above)
  • Safari (version 6 or above)

I went to check in for my flight and the background color of the site changed — am I on the correct site?

You are fine.  Guests will notice that during the shopping and booking experience, virginamerica.com has a light background.  However, when you are ready to check-in for your flight, the website switches to a sleek and functional dark background as you are guided through online check-in experience.

How do I return to the main home page?

To return to the main home page, simply click on the Virgin America logo.

Need to choose or change seats?

When choosing your seat on our new website, the seat map displays all available seating options in First Class, Main Cabin Select, Main Cabin and Express. The available seats are white and indicated by displaying the seat number (1A, 3D, 7F and so on) occupied seats are purple and display a friendly avatar.

If the seat you want is in a different cabin, our website will show you the additional cost to sit there. If there are no more seats left in your cabin, no worries we can find you a seat when you are at the airport!
