Exception Policy

We will waive the change fees and the difference in the price of the ticket if the new travel is booked to or from the affected cities in the same cabin and completed on or before February 13, 2108. Additional taxes and fees may apply. You may request a refund if you choose not to travel at all. Tickets must be exchanged or refunded on or before February 13, 2018

  • Minors traveling unaccompanied will not be accepted on flights into the affected cities during this period. 

  • Minors traveling unaccompanied will be accepted on flights departing from the affected cities during this period.

  • Pets traveling in the hold or shipped via Alaska Air Cargo will be accepted on flights into the affected cities during this period. 

  • Pets traveling in the hold or shipped via Alaska - Air Cargo will not be accepted on flights departing from the affected cities during this period.

  • Passenger traveling with their pets in the cabin will be accepted on flights to/from the above cities.

  • Hotel/Food/Ground Transportation amenities will be provided by Alaska Airlines.

Northeast Storm

Due to a Northeast Storm, flights into and out of affected areas are being canceled. Alaska Airlines and Virgin America operated flights into and out of Boston (BOS), Charleston (CHS), Newark (EWR), New York – Kennedy (JFK), New York – LaGuardia (LGA), Philadelphia (PHL), are being canceled for January 3, 2018 and January 4, 2018. Please check flight status for your flight before departure.

We are closely monitoring the storm and may make further cancellations. Please monitor your flights regularly by checking your flight status  before departure. You may also sign up for for flight notifications and we'll notify you of any last minute delays, cancellations, or gate changes on your flights by email or text message.

For the safety of our team and our guests, we will have no staff available at the affected airports once our last operating flights have arrived/departed. Please do not go to the airports for assistance during Northeast storm. Our reservations team is available to assist you 24 hours daily at 1.877.FLY.VIRGIN (877.359.8474)*.

SAN Terminal Move

On December 12, 2017, Virgin America will have a new home at San Diego International Airport (SAN) in Terminal 2 East, with flights departing from Gate 26.

McCarran International Airport (LAS) TSA Screening

McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas (LAS) has recently introduced new TSA screening processes, which may create slower screening times than normal. As a result, guests flying out of LAS are encouraged to allow additional time to clear security at the airport. 

Changes to policies related to boarding times, bags and pets

As Virgin America continues to integrate with Alaska Airlines, there are some travel policies related to bags, boarding times, pets and unaccompanied minors that will change. The changes, which are outlined on our related policies page will go into effect on May 31 at 12 a.m. on all flights operated by Virgin America. Of note, check-in and boarding times for Virgin America flights will change as follows: 

Domestic check-in cut-offs

Please check in with or without bags 45 minutes prior to departure

Current Virgin America policy

Time: 30 minutes prior to departure with no bags to check or 45 minutes with bags to check

Future Virgin America policy

Time: Domestic flight check-in is 40 minutes prior to departure with or without checked bags at all airports, except DEN, PHL, and LAS airports are 45 minutes prior to departure.

Time: International flight check-in is 60 minutes prior to departure with or without checked bags.

Domestic boarding times

We're going to start boarding five minutes earlier.

Current Virgin America policy

Time: 35 minutes prior to departure

Future Virgin America policy

Time: 40 minutes prior to departure

FAA Bans Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Phone on All Flights

The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) have banned the transport of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 phone on all U.S. aircraft, effective October 15, 2016 at noon U.S. Eastern Daylight Time. As such, Virgin America is informing guests that they should not bring their Samsung Galaxy Note 7 phones to the airport at all including both recalled and replacement devices issued by Samsung.  Per the ban, the phones cannot be mailed and Virgin America cannot "hold" phones at their airport locations. Given this, Virgin America has issued the following travel waiver for those who had booked their flight before they were aware of the ban. For more information about the newly imposed ban and what it means for passengers, please visit the DOT website

Zika Virus

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a list of affected countries that have reported transmission of the Zika virus infection: http://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/page/zika-travel-information. Guests who are advised to avoid travel to affected areas based on CDC guidance and who are traveling to a destination that is included on the CDC's list can call our contact center at 877.359.8474 to request a travel waiver.
